Overcoming Obstacles

Journey Into The Promised Land

Exodus 23:20–33 (CSB)

PROMISES AND WARNINGS

20 “I am going to send an angel before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Be attentive to him and listen to him. Do not defy him, because he will not forgive your acts of rebellion, for my name is in him. 22 But if you will carefully obey him and do everything I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. 23 For my angel will go before you and bring you to the land of the Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out. 24 Do not bow in worship to their gods, and do not serve them. Do not imitate their practices. Instead, demolish them and smash their sacred pillars to pieces. 25 Serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water. I will remove illnesses from you. 26 No woman will miscarry or be childless in your land. I will give you the full number of your days.

27 “I will cause the people ahead of you to feel terror and will throw into confusion all the nations you come to. I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you in retreat. 28 I will send hornets, in front of you, and they will drive the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hethites away from you. 29 I will not drive them out ahead of you in a single year; otherwise, the land would become desolate, and wild animals would multiply against you. 30 I will drive them out little by little ahead of you until you have become numerous and take possession of the land. 31 I will set your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates River. For I will place the inhabitants of the land under your control, and you will drive them out ahead of you. 32 You must not make a covenant with them or their gods. 33 They must not remain in your land, or else they will make you sin against me. If you serve their gods, it will be a snare for you.”

Become Spiritually Aggressive

We must be led, directed, and controlled by the Spirit of God. Just as the children of Israel did not move a forward until the cloud moved, we must not move until the Spirit of God directs us to move.

Instead of being led around by the hand and depending on others to lead us, it is time to grow up. We must learn to stay in God’s presence until we develop a new sensitivity to the Spirit of God so when He speaks, we move. When He tells us to turn to the right, we will turn to the right. When He directs us to go to the left, we will go to the left. When He says sit still, we will sit still, waiting upon Him. When He tells us to go forward, we will go forward.

You must stay in the presence of God and in His Word until the Spirit tells you, “This is the way, walk in it.” Do not act on your circumstances until the Spirit gives you direction. Seek God for His timing and His will. Regardless of how long your wait or what anyone else may say, don’t move until the Spirit of God says you may move.

If you are at a point of confusion and frustration, wanting to know God’s direction and will for your life today, break out of your confusion. God will make His will known to you by His Spirit. Do not become anxious or fearful. As you begin, in earnest, to seek Him with your whole heart, He will make the path clear to you. You won’t need to stumble or grope or knock down any doors. He will lead you by His Spirit.

Beloved, it is not God’s will for you ever to be brought to a position of confusion, frustration, and defeat. Those who keep their trust in God will not be brought to confusion. King David prayed: “In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust. let me never be put to confusion” (Psalm 71:1).

Turn your confusion upon the enemy and put him to flight. Take the fear, unbelief, and confusion Satan has tried to bring into your life and use it to bring confusion upon the enemy. God promised Israel, “I will send my terror before you and will throw into confusion all the people to whom you shall come, and I will make your foes turn from you (in flight)” (Exodus 23:27, TAB).

During this past month, you have learned strategies to combat fear, unbelief, and confusion. You will no longer be able to sit back while Satan destroys your home, finances, and attacks your body. You will not sit back and wait for him to attack you. You will rise up in the Spirit and put your enemies to flight because just ahead of you lies the Promised Land with all of its promises and provisions. If you want to claim it, you must become spiritually aggressive!

Make this declaration:

The walls that have prevented me from advancing are being knocked down through the Name of Jesus. Ahead of me lies the Promised Land. I will claim it!
