Penetrating Enemy Lines

Journey Into The Promised Land

John 12:31–37 (CSB)

31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to indicate what kind of death he was about to die.

34 Then the crowd replied to him, “We have heard from the law that the Messiah will remain forever. So how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

35 Jesus answered, “The light will be with you only a little longer. Walk while you have the light so that darkness doesn’t overtake you. The one who walks in darkness doesn’t know where he’s going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light.” Jesus said this, then went away and hid from them.

ISAIAH’S PROPHECIES FULFILLED

37 Even though he had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him.

Delegated Power

Jesus compared Satan to a strong man guarding his palace. When Jesus came, a stronger One than Satan had come. Jesus broke the power of Satan, bound him, and cast him out. As Jesus prepared to lay down His life to redeem and restore man, He said: “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out” (John 12:31).

Today, the very destiny of our cities, nation, and world depends upon our understanding that Satan is a liar and that we now hold all of Christ’s power in our hands. One of the most strategic lies Satan has perpetrated concerning himself is that the earth is his kingdom, and that he has unlimited power and control. But Satan is a liar and “When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44).

Satan used lies to trick Eve into sin in the garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve yielded to Satan and sinned against God, they lost their position of power and dominion over the earth. Spiritual darkness came upon them and covered the earth. Because of their sin, Adam and Eve relinquished their power and authority to the devil. Satan became the ruler of the spiritual darkness of the world, but he was never in control of this earth because “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1).

Satan never had unlimited power over the world. Jesus knew that the devil did not even have the power to deliver kingdoms, even though he falsely claimed he could when he tried to tempt Jesus (Luke 4:5-7). In this modern day, many Christians still believe the devil has unlimited power to control their lives, but all the devil can really use are the same lies and deceptions he used in the garden of Eden. Lies and deceptions are the only weapons he has available in his feeble arsenal to attack us on the battlefield of spiritual warfare. He has no other power.

Jesus broke the power of Satan over man and defeated him at Calvary. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told His disciples:

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:18-19)

Jesus has complete power over Satan. The really great news is, Jesus has delegated that same power to us!

Make this declaration:

Jesus has complete power over Satan and He has delegated that same power to me.
