Journey Into The Promised Land

Malachi 3:8–10 (CSB)

“Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me!”

“How do we rob you?” you ask.

“By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions. You are suffering under a curse, yet you—the whole nation—are still robbing me. 10 Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the Lord of Armies. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure.

Get It Right

During the restoration of Jerusalem after seventy years of Babylonian captivity, God used Nehemiah, Haggai, and Malachi to reveal why Israel was not prospering. There were many varied reasons: They were offering polluted sacrifices, failing to keep the Sabbath, committing immorality, and men were divorcing faithful wives. But one major area that God emphasized was their disobedience in the area of finances:

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. (Malachi 3:8-10)

God declared that if His people would come into obedience in every area of their lives — and specifically in their giving of tithes and offerings — He would open the windows of Heaven and pour out a blessing upon them.

God’s Word is His bond and He will not go against His Word to meet your need. No matter what dire situation you are in, He will not disregard His Word for your sake. He does not make exceptions. He commands obedience in tithes and offerings — but He isn’t looking to take from you, He is looking to give to you. He wants to open His windows of financial blessing upon you! But if you are to experience this great financial Jubilee, then you must be willing to obey God and surrender every area of your life — including your finances. You must exercise your will and choose God’s way in order to receive a supernatural breakthrough in your finances:

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. (Deuteronomy 30:15-16)

This verse does not present us with options or suggestions, but it commands…

1. Love the Lord your God.
2. Walk in His ways.
3. Keep His commandments.

These are the criteria. God’s people had a choice. They had to exercise their will. God told them, “You have robbed Me. You failed to keep My commandments. If you get it right this time, I will open the windows of Heaven and send you a blessing that there is no room to receive!”

Make this declaration:

I will love the Lord, walk in His ways, and keep His commandments. I will not rob God. I will be blessed under the open windows of Heaven.
