Overcoming Obstacles

Journey Into The Promised Land

Psalm 27 (CSB)

Psalm 27

MY STRONGHOLD

Of David.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—

whom should I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—

whom should I dread?

When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh,

my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.

Though an army deploys against me,

my heart will not be afraid;

though a war breaks out against me,

I will still be confident.

I have asked one thing from the Lord;

it is what I desire:

to dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

gazing on the beauty of the Lord

and seeking him in his temple.

For he will conceal me in his shelter

in the day of adversity;

he will hide me under the cover of his tent;

he will set me high on a rock.

Then my head will be high

above my enemies around me;

I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy.

I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Lord, hear my voice when I call;

be gracious to me and answer me.

My heart says this about you:

“Seek his face.”

Lord, I will seek your face.

Do not hide your face from me;

do not turn your servant away in anger.

You have been my helper;

do not leave me or abandon me,

God of my salvation.

10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,

the Lord cares for me.

11 Because of my adversaries,

show me your way, Lord,

and lead me on a level path.

12 Do not give me over to the will of my foes,

for false witnesses rise up against me,

breathing violence.

13 I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness

in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the Lord;

be strong, and let your heart be courageous.

Wait for the Lord.

Recognizing Fear For What It Is

When you face a serious disease, financial difficulties, a dangerous situation, or some unexpected problem, immediately a spirit of fear will try to gain a stronghold in your mind. If you fail to take authority over it, it will control and dominate your heart and mind until you are no longer trusting and believing God.

When God gives you a promise and directs you to take a step of faith and act on that promise, a wall of fear will try to block you. God has spoken, “Now is your time!” Now is your time to receive the fulfillment of the promises God has given you — to take hold of God’s promises, that wall of fear must be demolished.

When God directs you to step out in faith on His Word to witness, pray for the sick, or launch out into any area of ministry, a spirit of fear will come against your mind to hinder you from doing the will of God. During the next few days I want to give you five strategies that will help you conquer the obstacle of fear:

Strategy number one: Recognize fear for what it is. Although we are surrounded on every hand by fear, God does not intend for us to live our lives bound, tormented, or oppressed by a spirit of fear. God does not want you to be fearful concerning the circumstances you are facing. He wants you to be set free from every fear that has you bound and to know how to reject and take authority over every fear that tries to gain a stronghold in your life.

You must recognize that fear is a spirit Satan is using to torment, control, dominate, oppress, and bind eight out of ten people today — including born-again Christians. Satan’s objective is to build a wall of fear in your mind…

  • To immobilize your faith.
  • To stop you from taking possession of God’s promises.
  • To cause you to disobey God.
  • To stop you from doing the works of God.
  • To stop you from operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

You must learn to recognize fear for what it is — sin. Fear is the opposite of faith and God’s Word declares, “Whatsoever is not of faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). At the very root of fear is a lack of trust and unbelief. If you are fearful, you are not trusting God. Trust in God is a bold confidence and total reliance upon Him that He will fulfill His Word.

Fear draws your focus off God and onto your circumstances. When an individual becomes fearful it is because he no longer has his eyes upon the unlimited power of God and is no longer believing and trusting Him to deliver him or meet his needs.

Where is your focus today? On your fears or on your God? Why not confess your fears to Him right now and trust Him to meet your need?

Make this declaration:

I recognize fear for what it is — a sin. It immobilizes my faith, hinders me from possessing God’s promises, causes me to disobey God, and prevents me from doing the works of God and operating in the Gifts of the Spirit. I reject fear!
