Conquering the Flesh

Journey Into The Promised Land

Galatians 6:7–9 (CSB)

Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.

Yielding To The Holy Spirit

The first strategy in breaking down the wall of disobedience is to yield yourself fully to the Holy Spirit. God has placed His Spirit within you, giving you the power to obey Him and keep His commandments. As you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit and are controlled and guided by Him, you are able to obey God and His Word.

You no longer have to strive in your own strength to obey God. You are set free to obey as you depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit working within you and believe God to do exactly as He promised when He said, “And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27).

As you continually yield yourself and are guided and controlled by the Spirit, you will not obey the desires of your flesh and you will no longer be in bondage to the law. Paul told the Galatians, “But if you are guided (led) by the (Holy) Spirit you are not subject to the Law” (Galatians 5:18, TAB).

As you continually yield yourself and are guided and controlled by the Spirit, you are able to walk in obedience and no longer live under condemnation and guilt because “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). It is those who are yielded to the Holy Spirit and are living their lives being led and controlled by the Spirit who are no longer living under condemnation, not those who continue to operate in the flesh. Christians who yield themselves to the lusts of the flesh and are being led and controlled by their fleshly desires are condemned. Unless they repent and turn away from their sins, they will reap what they have sown:

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8, NIV)

God has placed His Spirit within you, giving you power to obey Him. You have been set free from the power of sin. Satan cannot make you disobey.

To walk in obedience to God’s Word, you must continually remain in the Word. You must know what God has commanded concerning how you are to conduct your life. Then, you must chose to obey and line your life up with the Word.

Your spiritual inheritance, including all the covenant promises of God, legally belongs to you but having the promises is not the same as taking possession of them. To enter into this new spiritual territory, you must be willing to walk in obedience to God and His Word. You must be willing to go into battle and take dominion over the enemy in your life.

Make this declaration:

I am yielding my life to the power of the Holy Spirit. I am advancing in battle and taking dominion over the enemy in my life.
