Putting The Enemy Under Your Feet

Journey Into The Promised Land

Psalm 31:1–24 (CSB)

Lord, I seek refuge in you;

let me never be disgraced.

Save me by your righteousness.

Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly.

Be a rock of refuge for me,

a mountain fortress to save me.

For you are my rock and my fortress;

you lead and guide me

for your name’s sake.

You will free me from the net

that is secretly set for me,

for you are my refuge.

Into your hand I entrust my spirit;

you have redeemed me, Lord, God of truth.

I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols,

but I trust in the Lord.

I will rejoice and be glad in your faithful love

because you have seen my affliction.

You know the troubles of my soul

and have not handed me over to the enemy.

You have set my feet in a spacious place.

Be gracious to me, Lord,

because I am in distress;

my eyes are worn out from frustration—

my whole being as well.

10 Indeed, my life is consumed with grief

and my years with groaning;

my strength has failed

because of my iniquity,

and my bones waste away.

11 I am ridiculed by all my adversaries

and even by my neighbors.

I am dreaded by my acquaintances;

those who see me in the street run from me.

12 I am forgotten: gone from memory

like a dead person—like broken pottery.

13 I have heard the gossip of many;

terror is on every side.

When they conspired against me,

they plotted to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, Lord;

I say, “You are my God.”

15 The course of my life is in your power;

rescue me from the power of my enemies

and from my persecutors.

16 Make your face shine on your servant;

save me by your faithful love.

17 Lord, do not let me be disgraced when I call on you.

Let the wicked be disgraced;

let them be quiet, in Sheol.

18 Let lying lips

that arrogantly speak against the righteous

in proud contempt be silenced.

19 How great is your goodness,

which you have stored up for those who fear you.

In the presence of everyone you have acted

for those who take refuge in you.

20 You hide them in the protection of your presence;

you conceal them in a shelter

from human schemes,

from quarrelsome tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord,

for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me

in a city under siege.

22 In my alarm I said,

“I am cut off from your sight.”

But you heard the sound of my pleading

when I cried to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all his faithful ones.

The Lord protects the loyal,

but fully repays the arrogant.

24 Be strong, and let your heart be courageous,

all you who put your hope in the Lord.

What Is God Saying To You?

Paul told the Romans, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet…” (Romans 16:20, NIV). To whose feet was Paul referring? The Church!

Through Christ you have been given the “dunamis” power of God, and it is your foot God wants to use to tread on and crush Satan! God wants you to get spiritually violent — pursue Satan and the evil spirits that are attacking you and fight against them until they are totally destroyed. He wants you to expose the forces coming against you, one by one, and put your foot on their necks.

One of the major forces we are exposing that is attacking, tormenting, and binding the majority of Christians today is fear. As we go out onto the battlefield, I want you to see yourself as the captain of Joshua’s army and by faith take the victory Christ has already won over Satan and his demon spirits. Put your foot where Christ’s is — on the neck of every enemy — and conquer every fear in your life.

As “Commander in Chief” over God’s army, Christ’s command to you as you go into battle today is the same as Joshua’s was to his soldiers: “Fear not!” God is going to have a people today who are strong, courageous, and fearless even in the midst of great opposition, trial, and danger — even during the most fierce onslaughts of the enemy and in the face of death. “Fear not, be strong and of good courage” are not simply words of encouragement. They are given as a command by God to His people:

  • God told Abram: “…Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward” (Genesis 15:1).
  • He told Isaac: “Fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake” (Genesis 26:24).
  • God said to Jacob: “…Fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation” (Genesis 46:3).
  • He said to Moses: “…Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord…” (Exodus 14:13).
  • God told Joshua: “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God, is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9).

Now…let me ask you a question. What do you think God is saying to you today?

Make this declaration:

God is telling me to be strong and of good courage, not to be afraid or dismayed, because He is with me wherever I go.
