Marching Into Your Divine Destiny

This month launches the first thirty days of a brand new year. Ahead of us lies the unknown. What trials will we face this year? What victories await us? What changes will occur throughout the world? How will our personal lives, our ministries, and our families be impacted in the coming months?

As we pause to reflect on the coming days of this year, we are much like God’s people, Israel, who came to the border of their Promised Land. Ahead of them lay the unknown – a land they had not seen, an enemy they had not accessed. There were tremendous blessings ahead, but there were also some battles that awaited them on the other side of Jordan. The same is true for us.

God instructed Israel to follow closely behind the Ark of the Tabernacle, which was symbolic of His presence in the midst of His people. He told them to, “…come near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore” (Joshua 3:4).

As we think about the coming year, we too “have not been this way before.” We do not know what joys and sorrows, victories and problems lie ahead. But one thing is for sure: We have the same words of assurance that God gave to Joshua at the border of Canaan:

Joshua 1:9 (CSB)
9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

God has promised to be with us wherever we go. He has commanded us to be strong and of good courage and to not be dismayed. The presence of God is advancing before us into the coming year, just as the Ark led Israel into the unknown territory that lay before them. During the month of January, we will join Israel when they first came to the border of their Promised Land and turned back in defeat. Then we will return with them the second time, when they obeyed God’s command to advance and entered in, conquered the enemy, and claimed their God-given possession.

As we follow in the footsteps of God’s chosen people this month, we will draw many spiritual parallels that apply to our own lives. We will learn the dangers of murmuring and complaining, the assurance of God’s promises, the importance of fostering a healthy fear of God, walking in one-hundred percent obedience, and developing spiritual vision.

There are some exciting times ahead for us as we look by faith to the future. God has tremendous victories planned for us in the coming days. There are some major challenges ahead also, but…”…We are well able to conquer it…He will bring us into this land and give it to us…” (Numbers 13:30; 14:8, TAB).

Journey Into The Promised Land

Exodus 3:1–10 (CSB)

MOSES AND THE BURNING BUSH

3:1 Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 Then the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. 3 So Moses thought, “I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?”
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses!”
“Here I am,” he answered.
5 “Do not come closer,” he said. “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he continued, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
7 Then the LORD said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. 9 So because the Israelites’ cry for help has come to me, and I have also seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them, 10 therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

A Point Of Spiritual Destiny

The nation of Israel was at its greatest point of spiritual destiny. The decision they were to make that day would decide the fate of the entire nation. God had brought them to the land He had promised as an inheritance and commanded them to take possession of it.

When God led Israel into the Promised Land, He had already positioned them for victory (Numbers 13). He delivered them out of Egyptian bondage through miracles, signs, and wonders greater than any the world had ever known. He opened up the Red Sea and they marched across on dry land (Exodus 14:21-22).

He miraculously led them by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22). He fed them manna from heaven (Exodus 16:4,15). He caused water to gush forth from the rock at Rephidim in Mount Horeb (Exodus 17:5-6). He gave them a great victory over their enemies, the Amalekites (Exodus 17:9-13). The Great I Am — God Almighty — had descended out of heaven and manifested Himself on Mount Sinai in flaming fire and billowing smoke.

They heard the great trumpet of God blasting across the plains, summoning them to meet with Him. They saw His glory. They heard Him speak in an audible voice. There on Mount Sinai, God joined Himself together with them in a blood-covenant relationship. They were bound together as one. God pledged Himself to be their God, to protect them, to prosper them, and to set them apart from the nations of the earth. Their enemies were His enemies. All that He had belonged to them.

He promised to bring them … to a land good and large, a land flowing with milk and honey — a land of plenty… (Exodus 3:8 TAB). He sent the Angel of the Covenant, the preincarnate Son of God, before them to lead, instruct, protect, and guide them and to drive out their enemies (Exodus 23:20-23). They were positioned for victory.

Pause today and think of all the things God has done for you in the past. Think of all the victories you have won and the prayers that have been answered. Today, you are at the border of a new land — a new year, a new vision, a new ministry, a new step of faith. God has positioned you for victory!

Make this declaration:

Lord, I am ready to enter into my spiritual destiny during the coming year. Thank you for your promise to go before me, leading, instructing, protecting, and guiding.
