God Reveals His Nature

The LORD—the LORD is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, 7 maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.

8 Moses immediately knelt low on the ground and worshiped.

  • God is love. His will is always best.
  • God is all-knowing. His directions are always right.
  • God is all-powerful. He can enable you to accomplish His will.

1 John 4:7–8 (CSB)

KNOWING GOD THROUGH LOVE

Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God is love…

Notice John doesn’t say God loves, though He does. He tells us God is love.

God is all-powerful…

He can enable you to do His will.

Isaiah 46:10–11 (CSB)

10 I declare the end from the beginning,

and from long ago what is not yet done,

saying: my plan will take place,

and I will do all my will.

11 I call a bird of prey from the east,

a man for my purpose from a far country.

Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about.

I have planned it; I will also do it.

  • Christ Jesus empowered His 12 disciples to heal people and to cast out demons (see Matt 10).
  • God equipped Paul to carry the gospel to the Gentiles and to establish churches throughout Asia Minor, all the way to Rome (see Acts 9:13-28).

Philippians 2:13 (CSB)

13 For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.

Knowing God

  • God is love. His will is always best.
  • God is all-knowing. His directions are always right.
  • God is all-powerful. He can enable you to accomplish His will.

In order to do God’s will we must know Him. We have to remember that He is love and because of this, His will toward us is always best. As we follow and obey Him, He directs us in the best way for the situation where He calls us.

He knows everything and because of this, we don’t have to question the wisdom of His direction. Even when we can’t explain or understand it. He is always right.

God is all-powerful. He equips us to accomplish all He calls us to do. We don’t have to doubt our abilities, strength, or resources to complete His assignments.

What was the experience that settled your belief in God’s love for you?

When God asks you to do something how have you responded?

Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t make sense to you? What happened?
