Journey Into The Promised Land

Mark 4:26–33 (CSB)

THE PARABLE OF THE GROWING SEED

26 “The kingdom of God is like this,” he said. “A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day; the seed sprouts and grows, although he doesn’t know how. 28 The soil produces a crop by itself—first the blade, then the head, and then the full grain on the head. 29 As soon as the crop is ready, he sends for the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

THE PARABLE OF THE MUSTARD SEED

30 And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use to describe it? 31 It’s like a mustard seed that, when sown upon the soil, is the smallest of all the seeds on the ground. 32 And when sown, it comes up and grows taller than all the garden plants, and produces large branches, so that the birds of the sky can nest in its shade.”

USING PARABLES

33 He was speaking the word to them with many parables like these, as they were able to understand.

Sowing Seed

During the next few days we will meditate on principles of sowing and reaping that will enable you to enter into God’s divine cycle of sowing and reaping in every area of your life.

Each seed is capable of reproduction: In the natural world, each seed is capable of reproducing itself:

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. (Genesis 1:11)

Just as each plant in the natural world is capable of reproduction, each financial seed you sow has the ability to reproduce. You have tremendous potential to reproduce when you invest it in God’s Kingdom:

And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground…and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come. (Mark 4:26,27,29)

You must sow in order to reap: In the natural world, you must sow seed in order to reap a crop. In the spiritual world you must also sow in order to reap. God provides the spiritual resources for sowing:

And (God,) Who provides seed for the sower and bread for eating will also provide and multiply your (resources for) sowing… (2 Corinthians 9:10, TAB)

God multiplies your resources so you can invest back into the work of His Kingdom. God does not multiply your finances so you can accumulate great fortunes.

The seed must die: A seed looks dead. There are no green leaves, no tender shoots or branches. In order for a seed to grow, it must be buried. In essence, it must die.

This is a natural parallel of a great spiritual truth. Spiritual life depends on sacrificial death: “Every time you plant seed you sow something that does not come to life (germinating, springing up and growing) unless it dies first” (1 Corinthians 15:36, TAB).

In order to bring forth life, it was necessary for Jesus to die on the cross. His ministry seemed in vain because it ended in death, but it was His sowing time. What an abundant harvest resulted from that one kernel of wheat which fell into the ground. Through His death millions have found life!

Sowing your financial seed requires sacrificial death. It requires death to covetousness. It requires death to selfishness. It requires death to holding on to what you have for fear that you won’t get more.

Make this declaration:

I am dying to covetousness and selfishness. I am releasing what I have so that God can use it and bless me.
