Winning the Battle for Your Mind

Journey Into The Promised Land

1 Corinthians 2:1–16 (CSB)

PAUL’S PROCLAMATION

When I came to you, brothers and sisters, announcing the mystery of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God’s power.

SPIRITUAL WISDOM

We do, however, speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdom in a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written,

What no eye has seen, no ear has heard,

and no human heart has conceived—

God has prepared these things for those who love him.,

10 Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, since the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except his spirit within him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. 14 But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually. 15 The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, and yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For

who has known the Lord’s mind,

that he may instruct him?,

But we have the mind of Christ.

The Major Point Of Attack

If a man’s heart and mind are filled continually with evil thoughts, lusts of the flesh, carnal desires, and wicked imaginations, he will be evil. If his heart and mind are continually filled with fear, negative thoughts, and his own abilities he will be cowardly, weak, and defeated. On the other hand, if a man’s heart and mind are filled with good thoughts — God’s Word, faith, and the power of the Holy Spirit — he will be strong and victorious.

Since the heart is the center of man’s existence, the innermost being where all the issues of life flow forth, it is vitally important that we make every possible effort to continually protect it from the enemy. We are warned: “Keep your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23, TAB).

The war against Satan must be fought and won in your heart and mind. The battlefield where Satan is waging war against the Church today is in our hearts and minds, at the very center of our beings, where our entire moral and mental abilities are located. He is attacking us at our most vulnerable point where our thoughts originate, where we receive God’s Word and have faith to believe His promises, where our wills, emotions, desires, and our mental abilities are located.

Because the heart and mind are so closely related, we must also look at what God’s Word says concerning our minds to have a clear understanding of this battlefield. The Greek word used to refer to the mind is nous, which is used to describe the mental functions of perception, understanding, knowing, feeling, judging, and determining. The mind is comprised of the will, emotions, thoughts, and imagination.

Our minds are Satan’s major point of attack! And it is here where the war must be fought and won. It is in your mind where Satan is unleashing his all-out war. The war we are fighting is not against flesh and blood. It is not a battle fought with our mental abilities, through the power of positive thinking, head knowledge, psychological techniques, or our limited natural abilities. It is a spiritual battle in our minds which must be fought and won by the power of the Holy Spirit working within us!

All of the strategies Satan has developed and is using against us today are directed toward our minds. Satan doesn’t want Christians to have a free, clean, healthy, renewed, victorious mind. His strategy is to attack and corrupt your mind, to hinder you from being transformed into Christ’s image, and prevent you from living your life in victory. His strategy is to bombard your mind with “fiery darts” of unbelief, fear, worry, confusion, temptation depression, oppression, and deception.

Make this declaration:

Satan, I reject unbelief, fear, worry, confusion, temptation, depression, oppression, and deception. I will have a free, clean, healthy, renewed, victorious mind.
