Malachi 3:10–12 (CSB)
10 Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the LORD of Armies. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure. 11 I will rebuke the devourer, for you, so that it will not ruin the produce of your land and your vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the LORD of Armies. 12 “Then all the nations will consider you fortunate, for you will be a delightful land,” says the LORD of Armies.
Scripture
Memory Verse
Matthew 5:42 (CSB)
GO THE SECOND MILE
42 Give to the one who asks you, and don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Memory Section – Matthew 5:38–42
Matthew 5:38–42 (CSB)
GO THE SECOND MILE
38 “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. 39 But I tell you, don’t resist an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 As for the one who wants to sue you and take away your shirt, let him have your coat as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Are You Empowered to Do God’s Will?
The Holy Spirit is vital to our relationship with God. He is the conduit that brings instruction, guidance and POWER from King Jesus.
Without Him, we can do good works in our own strength. But with Him we can change the world and do the works that Jesus did.
12 “Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.
– John 14:12 (CSB)
In order to do the works that Jesus did AND even greater works, we need to be equipped as Jesus was. He has provided a way to be empowered by the Holy Spirit.
He told His disciples that they must wait for this empowerment. Then they would be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days.” … 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
– Acts 1:5, 8 (CSB)
Why do we need this power, this equipping? Jesus didn’t start His ministry until He was empowered by the Holy Spirit.
21 When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. As he was praying, heaven opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.”
– Luke 3:21–22 (CSB)
It was at this moment that He was fully equipped to start His ministry as the Son of God, Son of Man.
23 As he began his ministry, Jesus was about thirty years old and was thought to be the son of Joseph …
– Luke 3:23 (CSB)
The genealogy starts here in verse 23 and runs to verse 38 ending with… son of God.
He was full of the Holy Spirit being led by the Spirit. The first thing He did was to go out away from everyone to fast and pray.
4 Then Jesus left the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness
– Luke 4:1 (CSB)
As He was in the wilderness He had an experience. He was tested by the devil, but was victorious.
So He came out of the wilderness and proclaimed His purpose that the prophet Isaiah had written about Him.
18 The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me
to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
– Luke 4:18–19 (CSB)
John tells us of this purpose. By fulfilling the purposes of God through the Holy Spirit, Jesus was destroying the devil’s work.
8 The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works.
– 1 John 3:8 (CSB)
Jesus came to restore man’s relationship to God. He offers us abundant life through the Father.
The devil’s work is in contrast to this. And it brings loss and death and destruction.
10 A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
– John 10:10 (CSB)
Jesus stated His purpose. He got His nourishment from doing God’s will. As His Body, we now continue the works that He did through the same Holy Spirit. He has made us participators in the will of God.
34 “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work,” Jesus told them.
– John 4:34 (CSB)
As I have been reviewing courses from Morris Cerullo, I came across this message that parallels what I have been trying to relay on our need for the Holy Spirit. I’m hoping that it will bring clarity for you.
This is day 5 of the Course Declare War On The Devil’s War! You can view the entire course HERE.
13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
– Luke 11:13 (CSB)
Have you asked the Father to be baptized in His Holy Spirit?
